It was Jethrena Bodine also played by Max Baer in drag. Ellie Mae was Jethro's cousin. There mother was Jed's cousin Pearl played by Bea Bedaret. Jethrena only appeared in one or two episodes.

Max Baer Jr. played both Jethro and Jethrena.
Max Baer Sr. won the heavyweight championship by defeating Primo Carnera. He was heavyweight champion for about a year. Later, he too was an actor.

Del - I didn't think that missing the Jr. made you wrong. Anyone who watched the show knew who you meant. Just plain fun TV - like Petticoat Junction and Green Acres. (Actually her name was Jethrine - forgot so had to look it up myself. An actress provided her voice.)

By the way, what arms did the Clampetts use? I can just specifically name Jethro's and Ellie Mae's.

Granny had a short barrel 12 gauge.
Jed had a muzzleloader.

Jed used a muzzleloader in the opening but he and Jethro shot Win. lever-actions in the episode where they shot flys off the gate by ricocheting their bullets. Granny had a sxs double. Remember when they shot skeet with the rifles and granny used her shotgun but shot 2 crossing targets each time. BTW when I was a kid I got to hug Donna Douglas and my mom took our picture.

Primo was the guy. I believe he is still the largest heavyweight to have held the title - 275 lbs. They called him the Alp in Motion or something like that. Baer Sr's most memorable win was his defeat of Max Schnelling in 1933. The elder Baer's father was half-Jewish and Schnelling was the idol of Nazi Germany. Thereafter Baer wore a Star of David on his trunks when he fought. Baer Sr also had the distinction of killing one fighter and disabling another in the ring. According to his son this haunted him for the rest of his life even though the agreived widow immediately forgave him. The other guy's corner and the ref were to blame. They had plenty of opportunities to stop the fight.

Joe Lous defeated Max Sr. during his comeback after losing the title to a relative nobody. Louis was the first fighter to put Baer on the canvas (but only on a knee). Baer is ranked 22nd hardest hitter of all time but many think he should be in the top five. In spite of his size and lethal reputation, Baer was an outgoing, lighthearted "clown" and a exemplary sportsman and gentleman in and out of the ring. Baer Sr died suddenly of a heart attack at age 50. I remember it. On the news they showed a clip of his fight against Louis and Dad commented on what a great fighter he was (though I didn't think the clip was very flattering). Baer Sr was also a WWII vet.

Jethro used a Henry rifle, at least in some episodes. Ellie Mae used slingshots a lot. She also use a black powder revolver - not sure what it was for sure but suspect it was a Colt Navy.

Jethrine, and she won't have to worry about winning any beauty contests. I saw an interview with Max jr. some years back. He looked like some sort of gangster leg breaker and said he wished he could bury Jethro forever. Sad..............
