Q:
This weekend was the first weekend of firearm season in Missouri. I went hunting for a total of 24 hours and only saw does, button bucks and tiny basket racks. The bucks were chasing does like crazy but i never saw any buck worth taking. No one in my hunting party dropped or saw anything with a good set of headgear, which is highly unusual for the area. Also hunting was very very slow for the people in th area. Does anyone know why hunting is so slow or why no nice taker bucks are moving? Is the rut slowing down?

Well I have all the racks I need on the wall already, so I shoot mostly does now for meat, you can't eat horns.
In many places, lot's of standing corn due to the wet fall has made hunting slow. Not sure why it's slow here in NJ, as i'm not near any corn!
were having the same problem in NY...if you wait out in the stand to about 30min after dark though you will most likely see the big ones...for some reason they have gone nocturnal
I think above normal temps have a little to do with biger bucks staying in bed. Lots more hunters in my neck of the woods this year, I'd say 6 times as many. I see a lot of in season scouting this year, where I hung stands in june and july, now have brand new stands set up within bow range of the breeding scrape I've been hunting for 3 years. I arrive an hour before daylight opening day of firearms and as I'm approaching my hottest stand, someone in a nearby tree flashes his light at me. I backed out and let him have it, where did ethics go?
i sat both days all day from the time it was light to the time it was dark..except when i was draggn my buck.it was only a forked horn so i cant really brag except to my dad who killed a doe.both had white feet to.
