Question by RICKVK. Uploaded on July 07, 2009
I'm guessing on the percentages but I mix approximately 4 parts hydrogen peroxide, 1 part lemon scented dawn, 1 part baking soda. Mix togehter and then lather and rinse dog several times. Gets about 90% of the smell. Our Anatolian Shepherd likes to play with the stinky critters every once in a while and this does the trick. Good Luck!!
TIME and a bath .
I have heard of tomato juice too
The acid in the tomato juice should help neutrulize the smell.
I always heard that tomato juice works, but I have never had to try it.
My dog got sprayed last year. I bought the skunk out stuff at the pet store and it didn't work. But the tomatoe juice got the worst of it, and white vinager bath seemed to help also.
Give it time and hope he doesn't do it again.
RECIPE FOR REMOVING SKUNK SMELL FROM YOUR DOG
You will need the following from any local grocery or drug store:
* 1 QT. OF 3% HYDROGEN PEROXIDE
* 1/4 CUP OF BAKING SODA
* 1 TEASPOON OF A LIQUID SOAP ( I recommend DAWN, it breaks down oil and grease well)
MIX AND IMMEDIATELY APPLY TO YOUR DOG. BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO GET THE MIXTURE IN YOUR DOGS NOSE, EYES ,EARS OR MOUTH.
LATHER UP REALLY GOOD (my wife used a cheap shampoo first just to get the suds going)
RINSE AND DRY OFF YOUR DOG.
* You must mix this is an open container and when you are done with the formula get rid of the remaining formula (if there is any left) DO NOT STORE what's left in a container, the chemical reaction from being closed up can cause an explosion! (interesting side note here: this is probably why this formula has never been patented- if you can't bottle it you certainly can't sell it!)
And there you go.
Rudy is telling you exactly what you need to hear. This happened to my dog and it works best. It still takes time, but this really gets the smell out as much as is possible. Tomato juice does a whole lot of nothing.
We bathed our dog in Mint Listerine and it really knocks the edge off the skunk smell. We gave him the same bath two days later and when the scent of the Listerine was gone so was the skunk stench.
cinnnamon mouth wash. Put it on one of our dogs when there was nothing to use and it worked way better than anyone expected.
a bath in punch or tomatoe juice.
A tomatoe juice bath.
Fill a very large glass with 1/2 vodka and 1/2 tomatoe juice. Sip on this while you use the above peroxide recipe which works!!! Repeat as necessary.
tomato juice and a lot of baths
