Your chances are very low, depending if you are bottom fishing or top water fishing, rainbow trouts are more attracted to bright colors and lures such as cast masters, or any colored rooster tails, your best luck would be to stick with the power baits.

usually not. I would go for power bait, worms, smelt.

I've never heard of anyone,anywhere using cut up shad of anykind.Why gizzard shad?Are you fishing in a river system below a dam?Trout will bite on a variety of baits.Try it.Let the trout tell you.

im fishing in a local creek and gizzard shad are the only emediate bait source in the creek
