I never know what to expect in Cody. I arrived at the hospital for work today only to find cops with AR's everywhere. It seems that a mountain lion in roaming near the downtown area.
We have coyotes and deer all over the place, another mountain lion was trapped in someone's garage a couple years ago, plus we see black bears and a few grizzlies in or near town every now and then. Living in Wyoming for over 30 years I have only seen 2 fleeting glimpses of mountain lions in the Rockies. I should probably hunt one before I get too old.
5.56 would not be my first choice for a mountain lion. Cody PD should probably at least use the minimum legal caliber defined by WY Game and Fish. I bet they're loaded with FMJs too.
In Idaho the 5.56 perfectly legal for cougars. And it actually would be one of my first choices for hunting cats. I guess this might be a little different in that you wouldn't be hunting it for its pelt, so it wouldn't matter if you shot it with buckshot.
