Chances are real good that you'll never need it, but when you do carry, the chances are real good that you'll be prepared if the need ever does arrive. I carry all the time.
Along with F&S I also receive American Hunter magazines. They have a section devoted to stories from ordinary citizens who's lives were saved by carrying a firearm. Reading it makes me want to have a gun at all times because the time may arise at any moment when it could save you. I give you a thumbs up for carrying a weapon for safety.
It's like a seat belt, you never know if and when you will need it!
When I leave the house, I always carry my 45 and the people I come into contact including Store, Restaurant, Bank Managers & Employees especially Law Enforcement they all welcome it! Not one don't think I'm a nut case except here on F&S including myself at times when I trip up LOL!!
Have you noticed all those shootings, stabings and robberies are places you wouldn't think of it happening there!
I been told by the best Professionals in Law Enforcement Training, Concealed Weapons Instructors and Lawyers as a rule of thumb, when you pull that trigger, you better have $10,000 for Attorneys fees or an NRA card no matter justified or not! It's not the prosecuting attorney to worry about, it's that fellas next of kins who's suing you for the bullet you used despite that howitzer the other guy had! Instead of having the most lethal bullet on the planet you used the least lethal rubber bullets and it still somehow killed the fool they will use every twist and loophole in the book and make up some as they go along. For example, why did you use the same ammunition Law Enforcement use even though you used far less lethal load and never ever use handloads!!
I dream at night of pictures of the old west and that it has come back. The outlaws are represented by drug dealers. The horses are represented by low riders. The six shooters are represented by ak 47's. The street shoot outs are represented by drive by's. The head man or rather the big boss who reaps the big profits and protects the outlaws is represented by the lawrers. The only thing missing is Marshall Dillon. Where do I fit into this dream world, the bulge in my pants could just possibly represent the pair of six shooters and gun belt full of amo, or it could be just a bottle of Nitrostat for my heart. Let the outlaw just try to find out if I am really dreaming.
I think it is best to be prepared even if nothing happens, do not let anybody talk you into getting rid of something that could save your life someday.
Like Dave said, you don't ever need a fire extinguisher until you REALLY NEED IT BADLY. Same for a gun. Ask them if they are paranoid because they have fire extinguishers or airbags.
I think your co-workers are living in a dream world. I carry a gun like I carry a jack. Hoping never too need it, but glad to have it when the need arises.
Fur, the only thing bad about you carrying is that they know it! I've trained my kids and wife that if we are setting in Micky D's and someone comes in to rob the place to keep their mouths shut. Armed or not you will want to have the tactical advantage on them, not just stand up in the middle of your family (co-workers)and start blasting. So I've told them that I will move when I can, and I want them to get down and away if possible. But the last thing you need is to be in the middle of a bite of a BigMac and your kid or co-worker say "Oh Oh He's got a gun Dad, Shoot Him!" or you make your move and they watch you the whole time, or cover their eyes,or say anything. You can be armed and have all the training and skill in the world, but one wrong word could get you/them killed.
Set by the exits or know where they are anywhere you go. Also I love to see those guys carrying in the open, or with "The Vest" on, or gun or police shirts. They will get the attention, while my family ducks out the exit while I make my move. Just my .02
Fur, I'm getting the idea that you and I have something in common. The safety and health of our families, friends and ourselves. I too am a licensed concealled carrier and I don't leave home without my Glock 36 on my belt with at least one spare magazine in my pocket. My wife is also licensed and carries most of the time. We've talked about ways that we might have to back each other up in certain situations. Like several have said, better to have and not need than to need and not have. Good luck and God bless.
This would be great to have if you are lost in the woods, otherwise you will not need it in everyday life. Unless your planning on robbing a bank or going on a murderous rampage.
I look at my sidearm as an insurance policy. if I need it, my insurance policy is gonna cover me(hopefully). At the very least, I hope that it will make some idiot think twice about messing with me.
I have a Walther PPK that goes with me everywhere it is legal to go. If there is someone who has a problem with me packin', well, that is their problem not mine.

better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it
But the odds are changing every day.
I'll get another pistol as soon as I can afford it!
I don't understand why they think it'll never happen to them when the news is filled with robbings, murders & such.
I don't expect my house to catch fire but I have fire extinguishers. The tires on my truck are fine but I still carry a spare.
Dave you said it best!!! + 1 for you sir!!!
Put the ODD's on your side pack a heater.
They will be the ones who feel stupid when a psychopath goes on a rampage and you're the only one prepared.

I'd rather carry it a million miles and never need it than to need it once and not have it.
Like the old credit card commercial said..."don't leave home without it."
Contented sheep are often food for wolves...
You are justified....too many psychos.

better to have and not need, than to need and not have.
Odds? Why gamble with your life?
I think that if you want to carry it than go ahead dont listen to your coworkers. It is your life you do what you want to do with it
