The Urban New Yorker's Unflattering View of Palin

Introduction by Chad Love

If you really want to lay your finger on the pulse of the American people, forget the media. The most dead-reliable snapshot of what's on our collective mind this time of year is found not in a newspaper, a website or on television, but at the Halloween costume party, where once a year we - deliberately or not - revel in our deep-seated fears, insecurities and morbid fixations.

And judging by the following photos, this year New Yorkers fear Sarah Palin more than Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, the bear market and Darth Cheney combined. Why? Because she (rightly or wrongly) is the embodiment of the vision most New Yorkers have of the great unwashed masses that inhabit those frighteningly large and mysterious areas that begin somewhere past the Hudson River. Take a look and see for yourself.

Not all readers of Field and Stream are ignorant red necks. To think Sara Palin was a viable vice-presidential candidate is a joke -- and that is what these photos and stories tell us. "Why Johnny wont hunt?" Maybe its the backward, redneck image too many hunters project. Field and Stream Rocks! Mark comment offensive

I've read quite a bit of these comments. There is a lot of folks saying they are going to cancel they're subscription just because F&S got a little political. What I feel any outdoor loving fanatic should take away from looking at these pics is to understand that this is the future of our country, or at least New York. Hopefully, this will cause some individuals to drive harder to get that lazy son in the woods or that distant relative in the blind. Our future relies on us. Also, if you are subscribed to American Hunter, and don't feel the same for that magazine then "SHUT UP!" Because guess what, you are being just as biased as PETA or green peace. That's right, I said it. I mean look at most media or T.V. comedies. For instance, SNL (Saturday Night Live) claims they are unbiased; yet, any person with half a brain can see who they favor and who they make look like a bigger fool! If you ask me, F&S is doing the right thing displaying material like this. Perhaps some republican considering Obama will be able to understand that this is what democratic liberals think of republicans. Granted, it doesn't really matter now. Mark comment offensive

help me out here folks! i thought the presidential candidates were senator obama and senator mccain? throughout the campaign the report of comparing the experience between senator obama, the presidential candidate, and governor palin's, the vice presidential candidate was widely publicized. an example of this is: "at 7:31 am, 2008-11-10, dan said: what the difference between obama and palin's relative levels of inexperience and requested a serious answer." i cannot remember hearing anyone comparing senator mccain's experience to senator biden's. again more nonsense to confuse the voters. many of whom decided their vote for reason's for subjective reasons like their dissatifaction with president bush (he was not running for any office and he did not blow up the world trade center) and race. truth is obama could not hold a light to mccain's exerience and leadership so the media and blogs fed the nonsense of compairing obama to palin. i was not fooled by these "experts" into losing my objectivity when voting. ""2008-11-07, concerned"" asked in response to my previous statement, what the difference between obama and palin's relative levels of inexperience and requested a serious answer. i am being genuine so i hope this addresses him. governors as per their job description work at the state level. that means her actions were more finite in scale. a us senator is making decisions that affect the nation as a representative of their state. so her experience is pertains to alaska and his pertains to the entire country. also, we should never consider highly intelligent people running for a any position in the white house an "elitist." my god, it's in the best interest of our country to have the most intelligent members of our society leading. i saw the catie couric interview and the vice-presidential debate. it is clear to me that obama is highly intelligent has impressive leadership ability. i will qualify this again by stressing that these are not the opinions of a "left wing democrat." i am proudly independent and think both parties go too far. so people reading this will have think about that before dismissing my opinion as coming from the "other side." i would also like to ad. i used to be a big proponent of mccain, but the bottom line truth is that, he changed his stance on a lot of important (previously maverick) stances of his early on in the primaries. also, while palin probably supported hunting rights more than any of them, she was embarrassingly under qualified for vp and terrifyingly under qualified as president if mccain ever did pass. it was a huge mistake on mccain's part. the fact is mccain was a maverick but the fact is (polls) he wouldn't have gotten the nomination of the republican base in the primaries and never would have been the republican presidential candidate. the results of 11/4 seems to suggest that a more ardent republican would have lost even more handily in '08 against obama. i suspect people have called obama a muslim and a terrorist as a weapon of words rather than what they actually believe. i am embarrassed for anyone who genuinely thinks he is either. that demonstrates dangerous ignorance. i also don't imagine in 4 yrs that when none of the dooms day predictions have occurred, that those who believe it will be the end of america will own up to what they said and admit they were wrong??? i am asking all of the dooms day projectionists to please give our president elect the support and chance to improve our country and show he is neither a muslim or a terrorist or too green. and lets hope there is a lot of great legislation that protects our hunting lands and wildlife as well as our right to hunt. hmmm. i am a proud independent, and have seen the evidence that neither party is correct on all the issues (and is dangerous in complete control). balance is very important. so, i voted for obama. yes, the second amendment is always an important issue to me. so is having good, clean protected land to hunt. while republicans tend to be better friends to my 2nd amd. rights. the truth is in modern times the dems. have a much better track record of protecting our land. as a biologist who worked with mule deer in co... the oil and gas drilling in co & wy *is* detrimental to muleys and elk and grouse . we as sportsmen should support a push for more responsible drilling (like directional drilling rigs). so i am more worried about the wildlife and the land then i am about loosing my guns. no i don't agree with obama on gun control, but the economy is killing me and i don't think mccain has the stuff to fix it. i wish so many sportsmen didn't vote on 1 issue alone. the anti-gunners need to be fought, but its not the only fight. behavior like is being displayed in these pics of new yorkers, in particular the manhattan parade, is exactly why america is getting ready to get a psychological slap up side the head from the almighty. it's time to say if you stand for the constitution and the ten commandents we want you, if you don't get the heck out of here!
