Schultz says box calls have the most turkey sound in them of any call type, especially on a windy day.

Every year in February the National Wild Turkey Federation's convention attracts hunters from across the country. They come to talk turkey, to ogle taxidermy, to see what's new in guns and gear, and to check out the state of the custom callmaker's art. The callmaking contests draw hundreds of entries in several categories. Among them are the Gibson Award for the the best "working/hunting" box call and the "Decorative" category, in which callmakers allow their imaginations to run wild. With fall seasons under way across the country, we thought you might enjoy this gallery of winners in both categories since 1999.
