These might be the leanest and meanest spinning reels ever. Shimano took composites used by its bicycle division and adapted them into a reel body that is light in weight without sacrificing performance.
Lightness is better when it comes to sensitivity. The 2500-size CI4, for instance, weighs a paltry 7 ounces, 40 percent lighter than common aluminum-bodied reels of similar size. In fishing, the difference is very apparent. You’ll have a substantially better feel for any lure or bait.
The reels are sturdy. We banged, dropped, and tried to twist the frame of our sample reel—all to no ill effect.
There are two versions for 2010: the 1000F, which takes 110 yards of 6-pound mono; and the 2500F, which holds 120 yards of 10-pound. Features common to other Stradics, such as anti-rust ball bearings and durable Paladin gearing, still pertain.
A trolling motor system that practically runs the boat. A fly box that's better than its advertising. A soft topwater lure that's truly weedless. Improvements large and small highlighted the year's fishing tackle introductions, and test crews headed by John Merwin, Ted Leeson, and Joe Cermele fished with scores of products to ferret out the finest. What stood out are these 14 items -- truly this year's Best of the Best.

Nice, looks like a top shelf spinning reel.
...better be for $200.
i am a faithful user of the stradic and you get what you pay for ,its the best of the best .
I've been using the Shimano Symmetres for the last 5 years on steelhead and salmon. They always work without a hitch and the drags are smooth. I just got one of the "old model" Stradics last Fall, and it's a heck of a reel. Do I think that $200 is too much to pay for a reel like this? Absolutely not; it's going rate for a reel of this caliber. You DO get what you pay for, and if kept properly cleaned and lubed, this reel might be the last one you will ever buy.
Nothing beats a stradic in my opinion
Send me one of these and i will give it a run this year on the BULL reds and let you know if it's worth a ship betwwen the reds and jacks and occasional blacktip I would put it through it's paces.
little pricey, but if it is the best i'm taken it.
ggod to see the stradic get a visual makeover as well... no longer ugly white
Looks like a slick reel and from the review it seems like a durable reel for a great value
the smoother the ballbaring the better the casts. the better the casts the bettre the chance of a big fish.
By far one of the best spinning reels made today, very lightweight and cutting edge technology, buy one and experience it.
looks like a top of the line reel i would use it i am a big fan of spinning reels.

WOW that is one nice reel.
I just bought a Stradic to pair up with an e21 Carrot Stix I bought myself for the upcoming fishing season. See the article here http://www.bowriverblog.com/2011/01/01/happy-new-year-to-all-my-fishing-...
Thanks for the product review, I look forward to reading more articles here on Field & Stream.

Man.. this makes my wish i wasnt flat broke!!
I've had mine for 2 months now and I can tell you it's the best reel I've ever had! It's stood up well to all the bass, pickerel and walleye I've reeled in. At this point, I'm not even worried about hooking into a muskie; the reel's so solid I believe it would land one with ease. Worth every penny!
For almost a hundred dollars less, still think a Pflueger reel, (the president et al), would be a better buy. Ten ball bearings, anti reverse, smooth reel-in. Then again, I've never used the Shamino reel.
