Martin Mountain Brook Large-Arbor Fly Reels
What earns this product an award is its unbelievable value. At about $30-that's right, $30-Martin's new large-arbor reels are the least expensive full-featured fly reels I'm aware of. They have exposed-rim-type counterbalanced spools and offset disc drags and can be switched for right- or left-handed use. Are they perfect? No. The arbor is actually a medium size, meaning larger than normal but unfortunately not as big as many models. The handle on my sample was a little loose, and the reels-because they are die-cast-are a little heavy. But those are small complaints when you consider the price. There are three models, none of which are heavy-duty, but all are more than ample for trout, bass, or panfish. Did I tell you they only cost $30? $30; 918-836-5581; www.martinfishing.com
