2009 Best of the Best: Fly Rods (Best Value) St. Croix’s new Imperials are different from their predecessors. Two types of graphite—high-strain carbon SCIV in the butt and middle sections, lighter SCII graphite at the tip—provide an incredible balance of sensitivity and power. -- KD

Pleased to see and fish the re-incarnate of this Imperial line of rods. At first glance you know you have a great casting rod in your hands with three (3) stipping guides, not the ususal two or even one in the lower weights. My selection for fishing big lakes with a great deal of wind and current is the Model IF909. At $150 this rod outperforms other brands costing twice as much. See April 2009 issue of Popular Mechanics, page 30.
