Best New Boat Bag of 2010: Fishpond Storm Mountain Gear Bag

A good boat bag protects gear in two ways: It keeps the dry stuff dry and the breakable stuff in one piece. The Storm Mountain Gear Bag does both. A hard, bathtub-style bottom keeps the body of the bag above the bilge and slosh. The nylon exterior sheds drizzle, and when the sky opens up, a waterproof cover, stored in a zippered pocket, can be pulled over the bag and snugged around the base for protection. Semirigid foam sides and padded interior dividers cushion contents against kicks and knocks.

Sixteen pockets and compartments, inside and out, give this 2,415-cubic-inch bag exceptional organizational options. The testers appreciated the adjustable interior dividers, which can be removed altogether for storing bulkier items, and the “hung” interior sleeves that suspend fragile gear like GPS units. A zip top gives easy access, and stand-up sides hold the bag open while you rummage through it.

Looks like a soft-sided cooler I bought for $12. These 'soft' tackleboxes simply baffle me. You take a $10-$20 soft sided cooler, stick $4 worth of plastic lure trays inside it, and some dipsh*t buys it for $195. Unbelievable.

Anything but a soft-sided cooler. With the molded bottom, waterproof rain cover, heavy-duty zippers and material construction, this tackle bag is simply the best to be found in the fishing world. Quality and functional design are expensive to build, and based on other products from fishpond and the professional guides who use them, this bag is worth the price. There are too many products being offered in the market that are not dedicated to this kind of quality and design.

This bag is way to spendy! This bag has way too many pockets. You can get a decent soft sided boat bag at Target for a lot less cash. I use a Target large soft insulated lunch bag in my canoe for camera gear and it works very well - for under $35.00.

I think a good bag is worth it...I've been searching for good gear bags all the time. When I'm on boats every weekend with expensive electronics and fishing gear, including a $3,000 SLR, iPhone, extra GPS, etc, a good bag to protect it all is worth it. Add to that fly boxes, leaders, tools, etc, good organization is paramount to being successful on the water.
