Mountain House's freeze-dried dinners come in a variety of flavors and cuisines that taste surprisingly delicious (sweet-and-sour pork was my favorite). To make one, just boil a few cups of water and pour it into the packaging, stir it once, close it using the zip seal, then wait for five minutes. The meals cook right in the bag, and when you open it up it’s ready to eat (though you might want to let it cool for a few minutes so that you don’t burn your tongue). On a trip like ours, when you’re worn out, wet, and covered in mud at the end of a long, long day, the last thing you want to do is spend a lot of time preparing your grub. Meals like these put hot food in your belly fast, with a minimum of effort. One thing to keep in mind: Mountain House says their 20-ounce entrees are enough dinner for two people, but it took each of us both servings to satisfy our hunger at the end of the day.

I have had the spaghetti and meatballs variety of this and it was actually impresively good. I recomend carrying one with you when hiking or camping because it is a good emergency meal. They are also very easy to prepare. I had minimal equipment with me and still got the job done.
I have not tried them all but the ones I have are very good. It is nice to get something warm in you on those cold days, it makes you feel energized.

sorry about the double post
The author was right about the size of the meal. The packages say that they feed two, but it does not come close to that. Eating one is just about a right per individual. Just about all the selections are pretty tasty for being freeze dried.
I second that notion about the portions. Even my daughter (who eats very little) ate her whole package.I also agree with the author that sweet and sour pork tastes the best.
I use them every time I go backpacking. Most of the flavors are really good.
Couple of boxes of 22 and a Ruger Pistol for Grouse! But hey, if a little bag will do'ya, go for it!
Thinking about taking some of these and a thermos full of hot water to the deer blind for some all day sits.
