Happy Anniversary, Pritchard. One year ago today we plucked you from the only home you knew. A place filled with littermates—your pack—and other dogs. And suddenly you were riding home in the arms of Jenny.
The recent Man’s Best Friend caption contest produced a flood of great entries. But before I get to the winner, let me say many thanks to Joe Pope of Sporting Dog Photographs for the hilarious image. And thumbs up to Cabela’s for the prize—a six-pack of training dummies.
I got an invitation to go quail hunting last weekend at Brays Plantation in Sheldon, S.C. I’m a newbie quail hunter, but I jumped at the chance, of course. The birds were thick, the weather was perfect, and, surprisingly, my shot wasn’t too far off.
I’m not much of a TV person, but last night I was flipping between the Olympics, the Kentucky vs Mississippi State basketball game, and, yes, the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. I have a like-hate relationship with the show. I hate to see dogs that have had more grooming done than Lady GaGa. It just feels unnatural. And I’m no fan of what show breeding has done to some of our popular sporting breeds. (That in itself is worth another blog post.)
Not too long ago I was mildly bragging about Pritchard’s water entry. In short, she’s a small dog but she hits the water with enthusiasm—and air. So when I heard that the Dock Dogs competition was coming to our hometown of Charleston, SC I decided to enter my pup.
The Man’s Best Friend blog is jumping on the caption-contest bandwagon today. Thanks to our friend and photographer Joe Pope of Sporting Dog Photographs we’ve got a great image in need of your editorial touch.
I have to admit, I’m a Jets fan, but last night’s Super Bowl was one of the finest I’ve seen. Pritchard didn’t get too excited about the game, but she did raise her head from a deep slumber when the Doritos bark collar commercial aired. She didn’t get the joke—she just liked the barking—but I got a laugh out of it. If you didn’t get a chance to see it, check it out below.
After a slight delay as we tallied all the votes, the editors of Field & Stream are ready to announce the winner of the gun dog photo contest. So here we go…
Fellow gun doggers, the people have spoken. After one month of intensive voting, the winner of the Gun Dog Photo Contest has been decided. Of the 778 entries you have chosen the winner of the Remington Model 1100 Premier Sporting 28-Gauge with nickel receiver and gold inlays (valued at $1,400). And that winner is…
See that sock in the photo above? The one that looks like it was attacked by a small, rabid shark. Well, that’s my sock after Pritchard got a hold of it this weekend. The attack lasted, to the best of my knowledge, no more than 5 minutes. When I caught her in the act, she looked up with a few white threads dangling from her mouth. “Who me?”
