Deeter: Break Into the Fly Fishing Photo Biz!
By Kirk Deeter

The fly fishing world is already blessed with the photographic talents of Fly Talk's own Tim Romano... but if you are a budding photographer with a fishy angle, check out the new contest from Orvis.
Simple deal: Submit a great photo--doesn't necessarily have to be a grip-n-grin; it can be a landscape, or some other flavor shot that speaks to fly fishing... if they pick your shot, you win a $1,000 Orvis gift card, or a complete Helios Rod outfit. Personally, I'd go with the Helios, but then again, I "know this guy" who wrote that rod up in 2008 as a Field & Stream "Best of the Best" winner...
Click here for details on entering the contest, and also to take a peek at some of the entries.
Don't forget that Tim actually posted an excellent guide to fish photography for beginners on this very site. Click here to check it out, then get out there and start shooting.
Good luck.

excellent contest, can't wait to see some entries. It's good to pay attention to the fact that hunting and fishing isn't just about the "bag", it includes (but not limited to)just being out and enjoying God's creation.
You are tempting me to risk dunking another camera, or to tag along with someone else while they do the fishing. A $1,000 or a new Helios? I'd have to flip a coin.
I have always wanted to be a photographer. My Marty Stouffer inspired quest began with taking photography in college and ended with marriage. (not complaining) With the ease of digital and reasonably priced quality equipment I think I might get back into it.
I'll die of old age before I get good enough to win a Helios so I'll keep saving my pennies.
I have been diligent this season with taking my camera on my fishing trips. More importantly I have the camera at the ready for the right moment. A tip I learned from Romanos guide. Thanks Tim.
Click my name for a pic of last nights catch. I've been killing the bass this year.
Aw Man-
Guess it's time to purchase one of those high falootin', top-shelf, digital cameras. I've been talkin' myself out of it for several years. I've had the 35mm Nikon with all of the accessories, for a few decades.
That is s-o-m-e contest! Pictures should be great and breath taking!
so what is the rule for photoshop? personally, i'd rather just go with the original photos with no enhancements.
I can't believe scenes like the one above!
I can't wait to see places as pretty as this!!!
