Mountain Lion Under Minivan Prompts Hound Hunting Reversal in Oregon

By CJ Lotz

After Oregon residents complained of cougar sightings near playgrounds, school bus stops, and under one woman’s van, the Oregon House approved a bill that could overturn a ban on hunting cougars with hound dogs.

From the Oregonian:
"House Bill 2624 would allow individual counties to opt out of [a] statewide ban on the use of dogs to hunt cougars if voters approve. "

Rep. Sherrie Sprenger (R) helped champion the bill. “Something is out of balance when...a cougar is under her minivan,” she said.

Oh, noez! Every time I hear that word "balance" I wonder if we will ever accept science based wildlife management in the US.

The fact that a mountain lion would hide under a car does not mean that something is out of "balance". When you have mass die offs of fish, birds, ect.... that means something is out of balance.

When will we learn that our mini-vans are the mountain lion's natural habitat and we are the trespassers in our driveways?

It's easy to understand why a cougar would hide under a minivan. Most of minivans are only slightly more ugly than a boulder.

ahh the ol "not in my backyard" approach to wildlife management...

reminds me of the deer in the suburbs by me, all the non hunters want to ban hunting, then they start running into more deer every year with their cars, cant have that so then they have police snipers shoot some deer, well thats not popular for long.. so then someone tells the city counsel hey if we open bow hunting to the public they actually pay us! well now we are back where we started but now wasted a whole lot of money...

Da' poor ol' kitty was likely just laying in the nearest shade after making a meal of someone's organic chicken.
