The small Russian town of Verkhoyansk has recently been fighting a “super pack” of about 400 wolves. The predators have attacked livestock and killed 30 horses in four days.
Twenty four teams of shooters and trappers have started thinning wolf numbers with officials offering a cash reward of £210 for each skin they turn in.
The size of the pack has stunned animal experts, who say wolves usually hunt in small groups of six or seven. In this case, the Super Pack may have been driven together because of a sharp decrease in their usual prey: rabbits.
The cold, remote town is located in “Stalin’s Death Ring,” so named because the former dictator exiled prisoners there. With a population of just 1,300, town officials say they need more manpower and will begin shooting wolves from helicopters once daylight hours in the region increase.

A new spin on the term- "SuperPAC" ..
Hi...
About time to break out those "assault weapons", eh?
Sorry Pathfinder1, with 400 wolves killing livestock and horses maybe the Russians need a Russian made Ak-47 rifle with a night vision scope. That is one way to stop a Battalion of killer wolves.
Come on Field and Stream how can you let your writers post junk like this? 400 wolves, really? This is an urban legend from over 2 years ago. It was fake then too. I suppose the next article is about aliens stealing cattle from a town in Uzbekistan. You can interview a squatch that lives there..
If you want to be seen as a trusted source for outdoor information, then don't waste our time with worthless false info and stop spreading killer wolf stories that sound like a Grimm fairy tale.
Oddly enough, or maybe not, Chad Love did a write up on this exact thing almost two years ago. Wish he was still around.
I look on this as strike two for this blog. The drone plane pig killer piece was also bogus.
Holy catfish! There must have been a few billion rabbits to produce 400 wolves! Yes, F&G should have saved the space to report on something else, such as flying saucers and honest politicians.
There are 400 wolves and they get a picture of....... one?
