Video: Killer Whale Snatches Halibut from Alaskan Angler

By Ben Romans

A few anglers in Alaska recently had an up-close-and-personal encounter with a killer whale when it approached their boat and grabbed a halibut from the end of a fishing line.

In a clip recently posted by The Alaska Life, you can hear the men behind the line talking, but they seem relatively calm considering what happened. This has led to some comments online alleging the men knew the whale was in the area and were purposely trying to entice it closer.

Also, no additional details about the location of the encounter with the orca have been reported. Do you think it was a truly candid moment?

I don't know, they seem sufficiently surprised to me. Sure, they didn't freak out, but maybe they are just cool customers. I vote legit. Regardless, its cool video.

If you listen to the guy talk, he says "oh here it comes, oh no, it's the halibut." It's like they were expecting something else. I think they were knowing the whale was there, and they were enticing it to come closer to the boat. I wonder why the video wasn't longer, and why the hell do we care about seeing your wedding ring in the video...show us more of the whale!

Any fisherman has to know that if a Killer Whale or Shark wants their hooked fish, there is not a damn thing you can do about it.
A video is better then nothing.
