Video: Cape Buffalo Defends Brethren, Flips Lion

A South African lion bites off more than it can chew in this viral video posted last week when a buffalo reverses roles and attacks, tossing the lion several feet into the air.

A description from the Daily Mail says Ian Matheson and his son Oliver were on a game drive at the Mjejane Reserve in South Africa, but didn’t expect to see lions trying to make a kill, or for one buffalo to come to the aid of another.

“We visit the park two to three times a year,” said Oliver’s father, Ian. “In all the years we have been coming to the reserve, we have never seen anything close to what we saw that morning.

We really felt privileged to have witnessed such a rare occurrence.”

Matheson says all of the animals surprisingly walked away showing no signs of injury.
