Fly Talk At The Fly Shows
By Kirk Deeter
It's show time folks. Even if winter cold has us frozen out of our favorite lakes and rivers, some of us anglers can visit giant outdoor expos to at least think about fishing with thousands of kindred souls. For example, this coming Thursday-Sunday (January 7-10) the International Sportsmen's Exposition will roll into the Colorado Convention Center in Denver. Tim and I will be coordinating a panel discussion on stillwater (lake) fly fishing on Friday at 3:30 p.m. in the Fly Fishing Theater. If any of you Colorado Fly Talkers have a chance to drop by and introduce yourselves in person (as some of you did last year), we'd love to meet you.
On Saturday at 5:30 p.m. I will be doing another talk in the Fly Fishing Theater on backcountry fly fishing.
There will be many great informational seminars at the ISE show this year, from learning streamer tactics from Kelly Galloup, to sightfishing strategies from Landon Mayer, and more. Here is the complete lineup.
Also in Denver this weekend will be the annual Fly Fishing Show, held at the Denver Merchandise Mart. The Fly Fishing Show will make its way to Marlborough, Massachusetts, Somerset, New Jersey, Charlotte, North Carolina, Pleasanton California, and Pasadena, California in the coming weeks. Click here for details.
ISE, meanwhile, will be in San Mateo, California, Sacramento, California, Phoenix, Arizona, and Salt Lake City, Utah, in coming weeks.
Do take the time to visit one of these shows if you can (and better yet, bring the kids). They're great places to find some product deals, and lots of great information that will help your fly fishing when the weather warms up again. I'll look forward to seeing some of you in Denver

As tempting as this may be, I may be trying to ice a 10 pound rainbow out of Antero.
Denver seems to be a popular destination for fishing and fly fishing shows. I think it is partially due to the Denver Airport being a central hub which makes airfare reasonable. I've been wanting to go to the SCI convention in Reno but flights into that airport are outragous.
If some good tips come from the stillwater fishing panel I would love to hear about them. have fun.
see you there deeter. i'll try to find ya. wouldn't miss these shows!
I will be at the one in Charlotte. Always some great seminars to attend.
deeter, i'll look for you on sat. try not to look at me like i'm some kind of a papparazzi when i throw down with the bear hug, ok?
will lefty be there this year?
