Firefighter Saves Fisherman, Fisherman Saves Fly Rod
From the Albany Times Union:
After being knocked down twice by the force of a raging river during rescue attempts, firefighter Keith Cipollo finally managed to rescue a cold, frightened fisherman stranded for more than 30 minutes in the middle of the Normans Kill Wednesday afternoon….
According to witnesses, [David] Kelley, who appeared to be middle-aged, was bent on testing out a new custom fly rod in advance of the April 1 start of trout season.
"I told him to drop the pole as I was trying to help him, but he wouldn't," Cipollo said. "He said he just got it…."
"He was very attached to that fishing pole," Cipollo said.

He's thinking to himself, "I am going to try this pole out if it kills me...I'm going to be ready this year!" I'd say he was pretty close.
The problem was the fireman called a fly fisherman's rod a pole, so the fisherman had no idea what he was talking about;)
its not worth dieing over
how did he survive 30 minutes in the water? must have been pretty warm.
a man has to have priorities !
must have been expencive
LOL Like any of us are any smarter.

As a fireman...we have to save everybody...no matter how stupid they may be. When their stupidity puts me in danger, Id've thrown his "pole" in the river if it made the situation safer. NO APOLOGY
