More PETA Absurdity

By Kirk Deeter

seakitten

Congratulations to PETA for once again breaking the absurdity barrier.  The group just launched a new campaign to rename fish "sea kittens."  No, I am not making this up.  Apparently, the feeling is the "what's in a name" effect will stop the cruelty of fishing.  You know, if you imagine putting a hook in a little kitty's mouth, you'll be less inclined to drag those poor scaly creatures around with rod and reel.

I don't care what you call them.  I'm going to catch them.  And eat them.  I might even go for some sea kitten world records.

In fairness, I think we should apply the same line of thinking on the good folks at PETA.  From now on, I will call them the human carp society.

Hell Deeter, don't let them get to you, there was something I read where the head of Pe*a was going to be used in various industry Ex. Trophy mounts...

I would sell my soul to have the head of PE*A on my wall... no fish can top that trophy.

Personally I think PETA is doing the fishing community at large a giant favor. I mean what little girl in her right mind wouldn't want to go out a catch a sea kitten? Seriously, if little boys and girls only knew that they could tie on a fly or lure and go get themselves a sea kitten...

Thanks PETA

I think Tim is right. Every time I read a PETA comment, I feel like fishing more.

Even if we did view fishing as hooking little kittens in the mouth and reeling them in, there is something absurdly hilarious about that. Can you imagine? "MEOOOOOW MEOOOOOW" "GET THE NET!"

What PETA doesn't seem to realize is if the good Lord hadn't meant us to eat animals, he wouldn't have made them out of meat.

Since when did PETA stand for animal rights? I've been a member of PETA for years, People Eating Tasty Animals.

With what's next on their adgenda, we won't be able to swat flies because they need to be handled in a humane manner. Of course some of the members from PETA should be referred to the article about the Grizzly that turned on the person releasing it in the wild.

I started a "People for the Eating of Tasty Animals" chapter when I was in college. We were far less uptight than the animal rights wackos.

This kind of thing could backfire in my neck of the woods......feral cat is sport where I come from. For that matter so is "Fluffy" should she wander too far from the front porch. The standing mantra around our farm regarding cats and dogs is "If you love them, keep them on your property!"

PETA subscribes to the PR precept that any publicity is good publicity. They'll put this kind of tripe out to gain attention to their "cause." It's probably best to just ignore them - at least ignore these inane press releases of theirs. I think the general public sees this stuff for what it is: attention-whoring.

I love how these hypicrates target outdoorsmen (and women) that do MORE to protect the environment then all their little groups combine. They attack everything and anything involving animals, except one certain group. This group puts hundreds if not thousands of pets to death a year needlesly, they've gone so far as to throw them in dumpsters like common waste. Angry yet? The group is PETA themselves, look it up people. Stop supporting murderers, us outdoorsmen do ALOT more for animal rights then these slaughterers and THEY get all the credit? How brainwashed can one be to praise this twisted group like gods?

As a young angler this group is offensive.
