540 foot Cast: Real or Fake?
A couple of weeks ago Steve Rajeff absolutely smashed the distance record for fly casting with a 243 foot cast in Toronto. Now obviously, throwing lures with some serious weight and a stiff spinning/baitcasting/surfcasting rod almost anybody could beat that distance, but the video above seems ludicrous. I have no idea what a country mile is, but if you do the math this guy's cast is 540 feet. Something tells me this is nonsense. I mean the lure...
...hangs in the air for almost ten seconds. Come on! No way. Is it real or fake?

Of course it is not real. The road in the background just looks to be 100 yards away.
the humor is real but that's the only real thing about it
That's every bit as real as professional wrestling and Dolly Parton's figure. One's real acting, one's real pretty, and this is real funny.
The cast is fake. The porn style background music is for real.
Odds are that was fake but that would be sweet if you could cast like that.
180 yards? Thats a good 5 iron. I call B.S.
Its totally fake...
That is funny...not real...but amusing. The guy is luck he did not hook himself as he was catching/placing the lure in the net. If he had gotten hooked...that would have been even funnier.
its complete b.s. no way its real
Fake.
buckhunter,
so real... lol!!
Yes, Buckhunter. I missed it the first time but that is so real.
Not sure why it couldnt be for real. He has a good wind at his back which is a big help in casting distances.
What a fake. If he had casted that far he would be on the ground clutching his arm.
With that lure he wouldn't be able to cast 100 feet let alone 520
puh-leeze.
What's the point.
Sorry. forgot to finish my thought. Did you all check out the clips at the bottom of the video. These guys are a cut-up.
im with everybody else there is no way this is real.
100% fake
Just watch the yardage count-off. Any one worth their weight in backing or bowstring knows that it's off. Not that the cast was real anyway. This video is double fake.
The way he moves the lure you can tell there is no string attached.
I bet the lure is actually a 1 or 2 oz sinker painted up to look like a lure.
I remember fishing with my Uncle Jim Harris at a spillway below a dam near Texarkana Texas and we had to use a lot of weight. As I casted with my California surf rod the line broke and the lure went ballisticly all the way across and thru the windshield of a truck on the other side!
By the way
Notice the wind!
The mail room these two characters worked in must have downsized. Buckhunter, I will defer to you whenever I need to know when the porn soundtrack is legit! LMAO
i would say that cast is fake but i have seen guys cast 500 feet plus they hold long casting comptetions down at virginia beach i talked to guy last year at seagull peir who was sponsered and was wearing FLW from head to toe we were not catching much but the real entertainment was him casting his long distance he was useing a 2oz weight and i asked him about the reel he told me he had 500 dollars in titanium ball bearing on one side of the reel and 600 worth on the other side
oh yeah and the gut told me you can cast and the ball bearings will spin so fast and get so hot that sometimes the will explode and destroy the reel getting into that sport you end up pennyless quick
I say fake... a little too dramatic of a catch. Not to mention that I probably would not be able to even see the lure in the air, let alone catch it.
