Underwater Photo Slideshow: On the Green River

By Tim Romano

This past weekend I had the pleasure of spending two days on the Green river below Flaming Gorge Reservoir with some friends and writer Geoff Mueller. I'm shooting photos for Geoff's underwater trout book and we thought it would be a great warm spring weekend with few crowds to utilize the gin clear waters of the river.

There were few crowds, but the weather could not have been worse for getting into 39 degree water. We had rain, snow, sleet, wind and thunder. It was trying, to say the least. Like most fishing road trips, it turned out all right though. I got to meet some new people, see some interesting stuff, and catch a few fish along the way. Plus the boys at Boulder Boat Works let us borrow one of thier new boats, The Convertible River Taxi, which was an excellent way to get down the river.

true, very very true. I would have to catch a ton fish to equal the amount of photos taken...

Hit it right this time of year, and the Green below the Dam can be exceptional. A number of floaters are choosing this time of year now before the crowds that show up in the Summer-time. It is mainly a Blue-winged Olive time of year. And hopefully the weather is decent like your's was not. I will be there this Summer fishing with my Arizona buddy who had a great time on the "A" section last year. A 7 hr. drive for me. Hopefully the gas prices will not be out of sight.
