Ben's Soapbox: Register For Hunting Safety
By Ben Romans
I was in a big-box department store last week, and I was shocked at some of the displays advertising their current “Back to School” sales. Seriously? Really? Is it that time already? Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t it still July?
On that note, I thought it would be a good idea to remind everyone many hunter safety classes are wrapping up—so if you haven’t enrolled in a class and you plan on buying your first hunting license this year, you better take care of it soon! In my state, there’s only one bowhunter education class left before the season starts (and as far as I know it’s full), and a handful of general gun safety courses. The season will be here before you know it so don’t miss out on this important step. These classes contain some of the most valuable information you’ll ever learn about shooting, hunting, and outdoor ethics.
There’s a lot going on in the news about youth hunting safety and the right age for anyone to be able to carry a firearm solo—so be safe out there. It’s easy to get caught up in a moment, but try to keep safety issues as priority number one. It doesn’t matter if you fill a tag or bag a limit, as long as you, and everyone else, gets home safe.
And that concludes my soapbox moment for the day. —Ben

I took most of my hunter's safety class online, and went in for field tests and written tests. It was much more convenient than going to really long classes on a weekend.
My class was a little long-winded, but it was very good and well worth it.
My state requires a saftey class to get a hunting licence so that is one of the bright sides that i know that the person that is with me in the woods has some semblence of saftey
I signed up for a hunters safety class a month ago, its in sep, I want to get a small game hunting license...
That's all great, I'm glad you all take this stuff so seriously. Believe me, it will boost your confidence level when you're in the woods. Just practice everything you've learned and you'll do great.
