Weekly Pool Test: Lucky Craft Fat Smasher
By Joe Cermele
This is the final entry in our weekly pool test blog, and we're going to round it out with the Lucky Craft Fat Smasher. The way this lure was described to me at ICAST was a mix of a classic crankbait with a new-school swimbait kick. Nifty idea, and though I've always been a big Lucky Craft fan, I had a few concerns with the Fat Smasher. Check out the video and let me know what you think.

How is it on a pause start? i don't just crank crankbaits...so i'm not sure how i feel about it if i can't add twitches and pauses...and for $16-$19 i would need to be sure...who knows though maybe it will set the fishing world on fire and i'll eat my words
I say it's a winner just because of it's name.
Good looking bait, good action, but is it me just being too cheap, or are fishing lures like this (@ $16-$19)just getting too danged expensive?
Looks like it has potential. Although before i shell out 17$ i would like to so how it works in a real world scenario.
The action looks pretty good just cranking, but if you can't twitch it or stop and go I'm out, especially for the price. I'm with riverrat on that one. $16-19 for a single lure is too much. Losing/buying new $8-10 lures, plus re-supplying soft plastics adds up enough throughout the season.
I am not sold on these lip-less crank baits. I really like being able to bounce the lip off of rocks and logs without snagging up.
The lipless crank/swim hybrids are just too overated stick with a classic crankbait that you KNOW works.
