Fly Photos: Real and Fake
By Tim Romano
I found some images of Lucas Carroll while leafing through my latest issue of The Drake weeks ago and was absolutely blown away by this guy's tying and photography skills. Mostly the later... Not that he's not a good tier, but if any of you have ever tried to shoot macro shots of size 30 bugs you know it's nearly impossible. To have the images turn out as gorgeous as this is some feat.
What's cooler, is that Lucas took the time to do the taxonomy of the bugs in each shot, and how the photograph was finished on his fickr set. Take some time with the images, learn a little and enjoy the slide show.

This should not be labeled "Real or Fake" but "Amazing or Unbelieveable".
What a great slide show for both experienced and novice tyers.
The photography is well over my head but I do however know a well tied fly when I see one.
Any fly I have to tie smaller than a #20 I use the super glue method. I drop a little super glue on the hook and slide it over my tyers table so it picks up debris from flys past. Trim excess. Ta Dah! A #20.
i thought the article was good... but this flickr set is MUCH better
If your interested in Realistic flies than check out my friends website. Not only does he do incredible insects as artwork, he also does them of movies! I think you'll also like the photography he has posted on the website. I'm planning on suggesting one of his photo's for an xmas present this year!
