Life Is Good

I love quotes. And the ones having to do with hunting are among my favorites. So on this beautiful day in the Northeast that promises to get more beautiful through tomorrow, I thought I'd simply welcome the weekend with the words of one of the country's most famous women shooters.
"Any woman who does not thoroughly enjoy tramping across the country on a clear, frosty morning with a good gun and a pair of dogs does not know how to enjoy life."
Well said, Ms. Oakley. --K.H.

"We will not lose our right to hunt in one cataclysmic legal case. Hunting will be killed slowly, like a cancer overwhelming the body and mind until we no longer have the strength to fight or the will to survive."
Author, Jim Slinsky
Here is one of my favorites by an Idaho original, Sylvan Hart A.K.A Buckskin Bill "I am afraid of one thing....a cold wind. That'll kill you for nothing. You'll just die like a damn fool." From the book Last of the Mountain Men, a great read about a remarkable man.
Most of all, being alone on a mountain ridge, setting on a giant rock overlooking the endless landscape where perhaps no man ever walked.
To watch a snow flurry on a far mountain ridge and feel the Lord setting next to me enjoying what God has made.
I may have come home empty handed,
but my mind is full of awesome memories
it is a experience, I'll never forget!
But the most memorable days of hunting was with my Father!
Clay Cooper
"From my cold dead hands!" - Charlton Heston
“Armed women equals polite men.”
-Charles Curley
Ms. Oakley knows how to enjoy life but she needs a pair of brush paints.
Under the wide and starry sky
Dig the grave and let me lie
Glad did I live and gladly die
And I laid me down with a will.
This be the verse engraved for me
Here he lies where he longed to be
Home is the sailer home from the sea
And the hunter home from the hill.
Robert Louis Stevenson
Any misquotes or misspellings are entirely mine, but I always hope I can choose where I lie, and that it's one of the places in the woods or hills that time was spent.
Annie Oakley's is a story every youngster should be told.
To watch the sunrise
to hear the woods come to life on a
crisp, autumn morning.
Hunting inspires my inner most senses.
It is my connection to nature, to God,
and to my family and friends. Giving me a deeper
sense of the spirit flowing between me and the land.
I am, and always will be, a hunter at heart.
This is what I would like my headstone to read when the time comes. It truely says the way I feel about nature and hunting.

Now that is one awesome Quote! I'll have to copy that down so I'll have it. Thanks! Sure is nice out this weekend, although the weather people are calling for rain on Monday, which might put a slight damper on my turkey season opener.
Kim, You got that right. What a great weekend. It's nice remember the important things in life. I was lucky to blast my first gobbler yesterday and slam a huge rainbow on a dry fly today. I keep the Annie Oakley quote printed above my desk to think about it when I'm back at the Monday morning grind.
"I love hunting. I love the sight of wild game, the smell of the outdoors, the sight of a setting and rising sun... and o yeh, it gives me an excuse to get out of the house and get my husband to cook dinner. Then I can say 'I brought home the bacon today!'".
