CWD Found in Captive Missouri Deer
By Online Editors
From St. Louis Fox2Now.com:
State officials say a captive white-tail deer in northern Missouri's Linn County has tested positive for chronic wasting disease ...
The farm-raised deer in Linn County had been inspected as part of Missouri's chronic wasting disease surveillance and testing program. The agriculture department said the state immediately initiated a contingency plan to limit spread of the disease among the deer population.

What do states not understand about CWD occuring in disease ridden captive herds (High fence shooting galleries) that states would rather risk the health of the wild herd in order to protect their cash flow from these disese ridden operations??
Well that's just great! I hope MO wakes up before it becomes a serious problem.
Guess it's time to put down the herd just like they did with cows that had Mad Cow or were exposed to it
Maybe they should find a vaccine for pen raised deer to protect against cwd. We have vaccines for cattle and other livestock. Why not just test all their deer and kill only the diseased. That would be better than killing all of them and putting someone out of business.
There currently is no practical way to test a deer without killing it--it involves removing the brain stem. Other live biopsies (of tonsils) might be available in the future. There also is no vaccine for prion diseases YET, although there has been some success in mice.
I live about 1 mile from the ranch. It's called heartland, they got some great hunting but they just brought a deer or two maybe elk idk, in from another state that had it. None tested positive outside of the fence
