Canadian Parliament Eats Seal Lunch to Support Seal Hunting

From Google News:
OTTAWA — Parliamentarians are to dine on seal meat on Wednesday to show solidarity with seal hunters wrestling with a European Union ban on seal products and the loss of a key market.

The parliamentary restaurant lunch in the roof space over the Commons Chamber will "revolve around seal meat," beginning with hors-d'oeuvre and followed by a three course meal, said an invitation to media.

"Double smoked bacon wrapped seal loin" will be served with a "medley of organic beets, carrots and turnips," a "port reduction" and "Yukon gold potato pavé," said the menu.

Oh Canada! Sounds good. Can you imagine the U.S. government ever doing anything like that? Ours wouldn't even thinking about it.

I applaud them for taking a well needed stand and siding with their citizens.

Seal meat is really dark and flavourfull but there really isnt that much meat on a seal compared to its size. mostly blubber. but the filets are excellent. just dice it and saute it with onions and its delishious.. But cut all fat off the meat first so u dont get that fish-oily taste of the fat in there.. ;)

I hope out here we never need to promote coyote hunting

Excellent gesture. Thanks to ingebrigsten---I was wondering how those fish-eaters would taste. I know fish eating ducks aren't worth bringing home.

I don't have a problem with properly hunting, or eating seal. Not at all. I do not like the off-season fishermen who seem to get great satisfaction from clubbing (often slowly) to death. I wouldn't want to see deer, or any other animal "hunted" that way.

I'd feel better if they were eating them on polar bear throws.

Jeff4066, I have to agree with you, there is not much "sport" in clubbing seals, I was fascinated with one of the techs used by native hunters, waiting motionless at a blow hole in the ice, for hours sometimes, with spear in hand. the slightest movement on the hunters part would give away his location and spoil the hunt. But walking up to a water animal on land and clubbing it to death is sort of like waiting for a deer to cross a river then throwing dynamite in the stream, then retrieving the carcass down stream with nets. I think most hunters would frown on that.
