Bourjaily: Imagine Michael Scott from the "Office" on a Survival Show
By Philip Bourjaily
Survival shows are big right now. Teva sandals has produced some funny survival parody spots featuring Gavin McInnes, “The Naturist,” a clueless know-it-all. Imagine Michael Scott from “The Office” in the outdoors and you get the idea. This is my favorite of the Naturist videos. There are no guns in this clip, which is probably a good thing, because “The Naturist” is dangerous enough with nothing more than a roll of aluminum foil.

HA! That was funny, even if the Naturist never made a "That's what she said!" joke!
holy crap that was funny! i gotta try to make one of those umbrellas!
Ummm. My mother-in-laws birthday is coming up...
Unfortunately, I know a couple of folks who display about that level of intelligence, and they have lived long enough to breed---and vote.
On a serious note, this guy is more entertaining than Bear Grylls...
All he needs is a ignorant sidekick ala Dwight Schrute and all would be perfect!
What's next? Will Miller Lite bring back Marvelous Marv Thornberry, aka Dr. Strangeglove? Will Budweiser bring back Louie, or the three frogs? Now that was funny IMO. At least this guy is better than the jocks pushing Nike, Reebock, etc.
HAHAHA, what a great way to end a dull day at school
I guess if he had packed a box of heavy duty Saran Wrap instead of aluminum foil, he would have been okay.
Love it!

Priceless!
Phil, my heartfelt condolences to you on the loss of your father.
For those who don't know, Phil's dad, Vance Bourjaily, was an accomplished novelist who died this week. An obituary is at

dammit phil, sorry to hear the bad news. you and your family have my prayers.
Phil, Sorry for your loss. Lost my dad in 1984 and still miss him.
That is a super funny clip. Wonder if that guy was in the Air Force and stationed in Alaska.
Love it! These survival shows, with few exceptions, are hosted by charlatans and heavily edited.
aláv hashalom (may he rest in peace)
condolences phil. best to you and yours.
Would rather say something stupid than say nothing at all.
Condolences on the loss of your loved one!

Phil, as Red Skelton would say God bless...
Hate to disappoint you Kansas Kitten, Air Force Personnel use GORE-TEX® and have enough common sense to get out of an electrical storm including remembering to leave all food stuff out of the tent unlike one of your troops did back in 88, a bag of Oreo Cookies of all things!
Back in the winter of 89 if I remember right, one of the Fellas at Ft. Wainwright was arrested for DUI and cited for driving an unauthorized vehicle on a Government roadway, an AIR BOAT!
Kansas Kitten, you got to come up with better stuff than that LOL!
Personally taking care and watching your Father die a slow and horrible death from lung cancer from exposure to class “A” poisons etc from the Military and while the VA sets on their hands denying critical care and assistance and to lose your mother shortly after for giving up life, I know the feeling all too well <><
Survival Show like this, Surviving Stupidity" just might give the Gun Nut a run for its money! LOL!
So sorry to hear of the loss to your family, Phil. Please acccept my condolences.

PLEASE dump these annoying "fashion" advertisers. They do NOT belong on this site.
Need to slide in a clip or two of this called, "THIS NOT HOW IT'S DONE FOLKS" on the Gun Nut. But the problem is, the Show isn't long enough for which it deserves!
Thanks to all of you who offered your condolences. It matters a lot to me to read your words of sympathy. Dad did visit us right before his fall. We all somehow knew it would be his last visit.
Sorry to hear about your loss, Phil. Been there. It sucks.
I remember back in Junior High and High School, Coach said either play ball or go with your Father
No brainier of a choice there and now I'm glad I did, those where the most memorable years of my life!
Phil,
Our deepest heartfelt condolences to you and your family. Having lost my dad and father in law and all my uncles, I feel your pain of the loss of the most important man you will ever know.
Best regards,
Steve
I have to agree with you WAM, and offer the same sentiments to Phil. My dad has been gone for 43 years and of course I still miss him and the times we could have shared and the lessons he never got to teach.
Phil,
Having lost my Dad in June I know what you are going through. Cherish the memories and the good times, and know that there will be a reuinion in a far better place.
