not all cops shoot as well as massad ayoob. florida is probably typical though when it comes to completely unqualified officers. most could'nt hit an elephant in the ass at five feet. at the range closest to me i watch police and sheriff's officers shoot quite often. typically, dust flies all over the place and the targets stay relatively unperforated. sheriff andy gave barney only one bullet to miss with. wise.

How to dispatch an animal humanely definitely needs to be part of basic training. I called on a crippled buck with broken legs to be put down and I would take it. When deputy sheriff shows up, he gets behind the cruiser and opens fire with his shotgun at 40 yards, blowing the little yearling rack off into pieces, while the poor deer is flailing around from the bad shots. Finally he runs out of shells while the deer is still trying to get away, and is holding his head from the noise of dischargeing his shotgun into the hill, saying he cant hear. When he finally recovered I had to talk him into helping me throw the deer in my truck, the head swung around and slopped blood all over his pants. He was still pukeing as I drove away. Obviously he had never shot anything in his life, and thats wrong for someone in his position. We have had the same thing happen with livestock on the highway and even a rottwieller that bit someone was crippled by the cops shotgun and tore up two more people after that. Shot placement on humans as well as animals needs to be standard.

Surely he took high school anatomy...and why would he assume that vitals for a deer are in a different part of the body in a deer than a human? It doesn't seem that trivial to me.
