Party Boat Mate: The Toughest Job In Fishing
By Joe Cermele
A question I'm asked from time to time is, "did you ever mate on a party boat when you were younger?" The answer is a resounding "no." In my humble opinion, a party boat mate has the most exhausting, frustrating job in fishing. If you think about it, party boats are one of the easiest ways for non-anglers to try their hand at the game. They don't even need their own rod and reel. What that also means is that party boat mates spend almost every day, especially in tourist areas in the summer, dealing with a good percentage of 20 to 50 people that don't know a clinch knot from a tube sock. Check out this stop motion video shot by a party boat mate in the first person perspective...this is only ten minutes of his day. Have any of you ever done this job? God bless you, if so.
