Marlin Jumps In Boat. Man Jumps Out.

By Joe Cermele

I've never been on a offshore boat when a mako shark, wahoo, or marlin launched itself into the cockpit during the fight. But it definitely happens, and there are enough Youtube videos out there to prove it. The one below is the latest edition of "Marlin Leaps Into Boat Theater," and it demonstrates what may not be a terrible response to a hot billfish thrashing around on the deck. Stay and risk getting speared? Cower in the corner? Get the heck off the boat? Which would you pick?

Well we know what that mate chose to do, bail out! and in quick fashion. Can't honestly say unless the situation came up.

Not sure if that was a true bail out or if he was just trying get the heck out of the way, slipped on the transom and went overboard. My first thought was it was a good thing it wasn't an outboard or an I/O. You don't want to play with props. They chop people up very quickly.
