Behind the Scenes: Fly Fishing Video
By Tim Romano
The last few years have seen glut of independent films based around fly fishing footage. Some, incredibly well produced and and some not so... One of my favorite film makers, RA Beattie (a colorado local) just released his first full-length DVD with 4 feature films, 6 shorts, 4 award winners, and of course the obligatory "fishporn" cut. It's called Nervous Water and is exceptional. I've often thought about trying to make fishing videos, but after watching The Making of First Decent I realize I probably don't have...
...the story telling capabilities, technical know how, or intestinal fortitude to do so. If you ever thought you could just "go shoot" and make a quality fishing film - think again. It takes a ton of planning, a little luck, lots of hard work, and a pretty serious skill set. Check out the rest of Nervous Water at RA's website and put aside some time for some great fishing film...

That is some film worth watching! Might have to spring for the collection. I admire people that can put video like this together - and taking to to full length is just something else.

Undertaking something like that is amazing. That's three years of commitment to the project. We see so many shows on tv of people casting and catching, tips and tricks, amazing new lures, ground breaking equipment, and sponsor logos everywhere. I like the fact that they kept the name of the river on the dl. No reason to spoil something as we have done to so many other places.
Not many people can pull off making a good video about hunting or fishing... and usually when they do, although it has hunting and fishing in it, it is not always the main focus and it turns out wonderfully. This seems like a great film that I think I might have to check out. Great preview!
Fishumentories are catching on quickly and rightfully so. In an age where anyone can pick up a camera, a recorder and beam their adventures to the world, we are privileged this view into a world of beauty. Rarely do we witness the skill or technical needs to pull of this venture. The mere act of gathering the necessary tools, let alone the things one needs to survive, would stop most of us in our tracks. Thank you all who introduce us to new waters, special hidden corners of the world and a chance to share an experience, even if it is from the cushioned seat.
