The End Of Wisconsin’s Earn-A-Buck?

By Dave Hurteau

From WQOW News:

Earn-a-Buck could be on the way out.

On Thursday, the Department of Natural Resources recommended a one year moratorium on it.

The program, which has not been popular among hunters, requires them to shoot an antlerless deer before they kill a buck.  The DNR secretary says Thursday's move responds to hunters' concerns and frustrations.

Check out the full story.

One year off is a fair deal. See if the program is accomplishing the management necessities or not. Good to hear that they are listening to the people, but being systematic at the same time.

This is a complete 180 on the part of the DNR, but I am so happy to hear they are finally listening to the hunters of Wisconsin.

Personally, I would hate to have to let a buck of a lifetime walk because I hadn't tagged a doe due to EAB regulations.

I think most hunters today are looking to manage the herd and will take a doe or two as the season progress.

i agree with BuckTheSystem, give it a year and see how it goes. one downside is that there will probably be far less bucks in two years because guys will just be able to kill bucks right away. but who knows.

i wish they would introduce earn-a-buck in PA, but i doubt they will since there is far less does now since they upped antlerless tags in the past 7-8 years.

the problem though is that if deer numbers go up at all because of no EAB then it will be right back in 2010

what have hunters been complaining about since the season ended?.............low deer numbers

this move was only made to try and calm the complaints, however if you look at the meetings today in madison you will see alot of well informed hunters showing up and a dnr secretary looking un-informed
