I am about tired of people pushing the hell out of over priced deer bait and these "special monster buck seed mixes". If you are gonna bait deer a big old fat corn pile will do just fine. Also you can buy about 100lbs of corn for what these "guaranteed to bring in big bucks" deer licks cost a piece. Just seems any more it ain't about hunting its all about horns. The hunting shows that push this stuff try to push that they are just like all the other hunters and "its all about the experience". Its a giant commercial not hunting tips and how too. If you wanna kill big bucks come to such and such outfitter or use so and so's ultimate bait. Some of these seed blends cost hundreds of dollars per 50lb bag. I am sorry but that just ain't the average hunter.

I agree vtbluegrass, I was raised in NY where we can not use bait for deer. Now I hunt in NC and people ask what bait I am using this year and I tell them nothing. If you can not take a deer without baiting it then what is the point? I am in it for the hunt, the tracking, scouting, I do not feel it is to hard to set up over a bait pile and wait but thats just me and the way I was raised.

I guess I tend to agree that one shouldn't use bait for hunting. I also thought about this for awhile and decided that it should be up to the individual himself though. I thought a little more and decided that when we plant a food plot, isn't that like baiting a deer? I prefer to use natural food areas to hunt, but I do hunt our wheat fields and alfalfa fields so I guess one could argue that I bait deer, even though I raise these crops for money and not for hunting. I don't think it is smart to pay a bunch of money to bait deer when you can use natural bait like this. I don't mind the hunting shows advertising products though. They have to make money somehow to keep on the air, and I enjoy watching these hunts.

I know the hunting shows have to adverstise too but I swear its like a NASCAR race sometime.
"Well I'd like to thank Big Rack outfitters for using Cuddeback cameras and Wildoats food plot mix to pattern this deer. Also for hanging my Summit treestand. I just couldn't have taken this buck without 500 dollars worth of Scentlock realtree camo and my new Realtree addition Lacross boots. I also just don't think I could have made that 50 yard shot if I didn't have my Swarovski 4-36x50 scope on my 300magnum T/C Encore Pro-Hunter Limited Edition also with realtree camo. Any other bullet just wouldn't have killed this almost invincible buck like the new bonded Fusion thats as tough as Brock Lesnar. The 1/4 mile hike to my stand and drag of this deer would be absolutely unbearable without my super silent ATV, also in realtree."
I am just waiting for the day a guy shoots a deer on TV and a sponsor handler comes running in from the side with a slew of logo emblazened baseball caps and a Coke for the hunter to hold while they stand over the deer.

Guys, I think y'all are missing the point...Brett Favre is not a Viking (Thank God). I hope he gets a few more sponsors and starts his own hunting show! He already has Remington...

what gets me upset is watching shows that include one to many commercials within the show. I watched one where they took 5 minutes to show the main hunter driving through unnecessary stuff to get his buck that was about 200 yards out and the whole time I never heard a word about the deer or how the hunt went.

I do think it is a little cheesey... but hey, getting sponsored by something that you use already and getting it for free... i think i would do the same. Hell I would advertise Summit treestands if they gave me some to "try out". I mean of course they are going to make it sound like they couldn't of killed the animal without all those products but if you are a real hunter, you already know that's all BS.
