Video Report: Snow-Sled Deer Slaughter; $10,000 Reward
Five deer died in what [Wisconsin’s Waupaca County Sheriff's detective Don] Conat calls a "thrill killing" of deer by running over them with snowmobiles.

Investigators also say they've found snowmobile parts near the scene. They're hoping those parts yield fingerprints or identifying information on at least one of the sleds.

Conat says snowmobile clubs have offered a combined $9,000 in rewards for information leading to arrests. Waupaca County Crime Stoppers has offered another $1,000.

I live about an hour and half away from waupaca county and when i heard that this happened it made me very angry. Its now the talk of the town, maybe even the state. This is just cruel. If you think we have too many deer in this state, (even after the t-zone gun hunts and the cwd we apparently have) then go out and buy a hunting liscense and hunt the deer in the fall like the rest of us. Tags are given away like candy. Dont torture them by hearding them up and running them over with snowmobiles til their dead. Come on!! catch these idiots.

It is hard to believe that people can stoop so low to do something like this. It is extreme cruelty to heard up animals and then chase them till they tire and severely injure them. If they are such a problem to you, get a hunting license and tell your friends to come and hunt the area. There is a proper way to doing things and this is just pure stupidity and wrong.

An event sort of along the same line as being stabbed with an antler but noncriminal happened to one of my employees some time ago. He was reloading at his bench which was placed directly under a rather nice 4 x 4 mule deer mount hanging on the wall. Apparently the constant up and down movement and accompanying jolt while manipulating the press handle caused said mount to divest itself from the wall. It fell and hit the fellow in the back of the skull causing him to temporarily pass out and fall from his chair. He landed on the Ruger M-77 which was propped against the reloading bench and broke the stock. Additionally this all spooked his German Wirehair causing it to from its bed and run sideways into a porcelain elephant which was on the floor nearby. The dog broke the elephant and ripped a hole in the side of the it's abdomen. When the fellow woke up seconds later he had great difficulty comprehending the scene let alone explaining it to his wife as she had heard but not witnessed the situation. The friend was OK but the dog required a few stitches. They threw away the elephant.
