Food Fight Friday: The Sandwich Slam
By David Draper
After last week, I'm off to a 0-3 start on Food Fight Fridays. I think I understand how Red Sox fans feel this season. Hopefully I can turn things around this week—if you help me put Colin Kearns in his place in this head-to-head sandwich slam.
BELT (bacon, egg, lettuce, and tomato)
Venison Backstrap with Mayo and Sriracha
Before you vote, you need to know a little something about Colin: He loves sandwiches. I like meat on bread as much as they next guy, but I don’t obsess over them the way he does. So, it would really make me feel good, and erase some of the sting, if I could put the brakes on my losing streak by beating Colin at his own game.
I will admit he has got a leg up on me as a sandwich expert, especially since he’s playing to the readers’ tastes by including both venison and beer with his submission: backstrap sandwich with mayo and Sriracha on a baguette served with salt-and-vinegar chips and a cold IPA. What my BELT (bacon, egg, lettuce, and tomato) lacks in wildness is made up with by freshness, made with an egg from the laying flock that lives just steps away from my kitchen.
So, cast your vote: Venison vs. Bacon.
And don’t forget to submit a food photo of your own to email@example.com for a chance to win great prizes in an upcoming Food Fight Friday.
