Alaska - Kanektok River
Anglers willing to take a gamble on river conditions that can be high and roily may hit the jackpot for huge rainbows when Bristol Bay streams open June 8. The big fish may still be concentrated from spawning, and they'll be feeding like pigs on outgoing smolts. More excitement starts later in the month, particularly on the Kanektok. With incoming salmon yet to arrive, hungry rainbows ranging to more than 30 inches are famous for smashing topwater mouse patterns. Try the upper part of the river first.
