The Compound
Here's the situation... I know it may not be enough for anyone to give me a solid answer from, but I'm more than willing to try.
My girlfriend would like to get into bow hunting. While I'm a good shot, I only have basic knowledge of bows... And the amount I have to spend on the bow is even more basic! Ohh yeah, I forgot to mention that I'll be the one buying her a bow; well, now it's mentioned, haha. It's supposed to be a Christmas present; I was gonna' have my Bear wooden wheel bow stripped to the varnish (someone put a terrible paintjob on it, but it's really nice underneath it), brought down in draw weight (I'm stronger than her), and have a new string, whisker biscuit, and 3 pin sight put on it, as well as a new stabilizer and quiver, but I realized this would probably take too long, plus I'm not sure if a wheel bow would be ideal for her, and I'm not sure if this would be ideal for my wallet either...
So I've decided to get her a bow from ebay, because with my budget, trying to get a decent bow anywhere else just wouldn't be possible (think ~$160). I'm not sure which bow would be best, or even which kind... You know, single cam, dual cam, wheels? Long draw length, short draw length? Anyway, more on her, if it helps: She's young (teenage, as am I), short (about 5'2"), and strong everywhere except her arms; she says she can comfortably handle a draw weight of 45 lbs, though I know she excersizes a fair bit, so we'll say that in the future, that could increase to 50 lbs.
So, these are the crummier (seeming) bows which I'm considering... I'm listing them, though I doubt that anyone would choose them over the bows I'll list later; as I said, I'm pretty ignorant about all this, haha.
-Browning Bridger 2
-Hoyt Raptor Invader
-Martin Tiger
-Bear WhiteTail 2
For nicer bows.
As far as dual cam bows go, I was thinking:
-Browning Illusion 2
-PSE Nova
-PSE Caroll Intruder
-Martin Jaguar.
+As far as single cam bows, I'm looking at well, pretty much just the High Country X1 Power Force.
At the moment, I'm really leaning towards the High Country bow, or maybe one of the PSE bows, but I'm not sure if that's a good choice or not? I guess what I'm asking is more of a single cam v. double cam for a small girl, on a budget. Don't worry about the accessories, I realize I'll be shelling out cash for a whisker biscuit and a decent sight no matter which bow I purchase. Sorry for righting a novel, ahah, I just really want to make someone special happy come later this month...(: So, can any of you fine men and woman point this first-time poster in the right direction?
take her to a bow shop, get a general idea of what fits her and go from thier better safe than sorry
I would say going into a bow shop to get a proper draw length would be a good idea. If you don't want to have her hold a string in her left hand. Hold it out like holding a bow hold the other end in her right hand by the corner of her mouth. Just like shooting a bow mark and measure the string. This assumes she is right handed. Check out this bow. A brand new Martin bow with quiver, sights, and rest $206 with free shipping. If you go with ebay the High Country or PSE would both be good choices. http://www.booneroutfitters.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=202...
