The Compound
Tonight was the night for me to shoot the big one. I can just feel it. BUT, I chose not to enter my bow stand tonight because by the time I would have been settled in, I would have had only 2 hours to hunt before dark, when I don't like sitting any less than 3 hours at a time. I was afraid by entering the woods that close to dark I would have spooked off the deer. But now looking back on it, I totally regret not going and I have a strong feeling the big boy walked right past my stand on this perfect night, and I COULD have been there. :(
You could go into your stand with only a half hour of shooting light left and still bad the big one! This past Saturday I climbed into my stand, hung my bow and turned to attach my body harness and heard something in the leaves. I turned to see a doe at 20 yards and I didn't even have my arrow nocked yet.
My dad and buddy hunted for less than an hour tonight, still saw several deer. You can't shoot them if you aren't out there. Have to hunt every chance you get.
Especially during the rut.
