The Compound
I recently picked up an AMF Falcon 62" 40# recurve for $20.oo in very good condition. The string had no twist on it nor did it have a nockpoint. I figured someone must've removed the string at some point and put it back on without twisting it. I took it off, twisted it up a good bit and put it back on which was no easy task. I have since established a nockpoint and shot the bow with as expected spotty results but not terrible. My question is how do i know how many twists are correct for the string? Also any other tips would be appreciated. I have been using old aluminum arrows that i no longer use for my compound(70#). Would a less stiff arrow shoot better off the recurve? I have no experience with traditional archery tackle save a few shots when iwas a kid. I was happy to get most arrows on target at ranges from 10-25 yds. Thanks for any info, advice or comments.
wtf guys? no help?
sorry homie, its rut time, not much on line except at work.
So, yes I think the arrows are fine, play with some old ones and number them to get data for yourself.
Twist, this is a bow shop thing for me. Over summer I too wanted to sling some arrows the old way, first trip was to bow shop and get the lenght and twist according to my body, arm length, etc...
Most oldder bows I have seen have bad, cracked limbs that make any shot over 20 yards iffy... more of a fun shoot.
Plus, if its not more then 40#lbs I just cannot justify shooting a large game, now rabbits and stuff sure.
so, twist length, ? I go see my man at the bow shop that I trust...
hope your doing well out in the woods, gun season is plugging along. Trying to help others get deer now that my tags are all but gone. 1 doe tag left. Could be a nice late season in the house all wrapped up!
I did read the post with the guy and the tinks deer... maybe net year???
So WTF... get out there and get that buck/doe!
Thanks for the reply. Your season is goin better than mine but i don't begrudge! Happy to be out there. Glad you're filling tags. I did have a doe i failed to recover in spite of a solid hit. First time that's ever happened to me. Needless to say i searched two days and have not forgave myself. Still have time for redemption i suppose.
When you hunt long enough (especially with a bow) losing one is bound to happen. Yes time in the filed is better then nothing at all. Remember it can happen anytime... good luck.
Enjoy that Thanksgiving, both at home and afield. Found a nice shed today looking for a new spot.
