Price Gouging, Apparently Rahm Emmanuel is not the only one who takes advantage of a crisis

Uploaded on March 24, 2009

This is a sort of continuation of the Ammo Shortage topic started earlier. Rahm Emmanuel was once quoted as saying you should never pass on an opportunity to take advantage of a crisis. Some gun suppliers are doing the same. I will use primers as my example. Big box gun suppliers are still getting primers for roughly $30 per 1000. As I write this 1000 small rifle primers are going for $75 to $100 on gunbroker. Small dealers who have the means to buy huge quantities and hoard product are basically completely screwing people much like execs from our favorite insurance agency AIG. I know its supply and demand because some are will to pay but it is truly insanity. No I didn't vote for Barack but as of now the administration has made no move on guns or ammo because no restrictive gun laws can find enoug co-sponsors to go to floor. Most factories are at peak production trying to keep up with demand. Collectively we are hurting ourselves by hoarding and creating this huge price spike. I cannot afford to shoot much at all now because some people are willing to pay these inflated prices on ammo and supplies and keep driving the price skyward. How are we supposed to bring in new shooters? Sure they may like it but will quickly lose interest when every range trip cost $100.
I feel it is an unwarranted self feeding fear driving people to lose their dang minds and buy ever piece of ammo they see and just hide in their house or yard. We are only hurting ourselves with this hysteria over the possibility new gun regs. Slow down and think, when a restrictive gun bill comes up we just need to keep contacting the people in Washington and raise public awareness. Not go out and buy ammo and guns at prices 4 times their actual value. If you do need to buy, only support dealer who still fairly pricing their goods and not those seeing only dollar signs and reaming the gun owning public with huge mark-ups. Do you really need 10 AR's, 6 snubnose 38's, 25 magazines for your Glock, and 10000lbs of ammo? I know this was a long rant and I could go longer but I'll stop there. I want to know how other feel about hoarding, price gouging, and at what point the bottom will fall out of the ammo market, because we can only afford 50 cents per pull of the trigger for so long.
