Tarpon!
fresh water this spring;i caught a 18lb plus laker, using live bait ,trolling a big 2inch redfin daise,no weight just a 3foot leader and a barrel swivel with asingle 2/0 steel hook.i thought my berkly med action pole was going to snap any second.Got the fish to the boat three times then he would go straight down 70-100 feet.Really impressive for our little state of vt.at least a20 minute fight!!enjoy!!and released back to the lake.
fresh was a 4lb smallmouth in Deep creek lake in western maryland.
Salt was the estimated 800 pound blue marlin from three years ago. we were trolling for tuna 5 miles south of the canyons. we all watched in amazement as it came up and inhaled a ballyhoo behind a orange islander. It was a catch and release.
Smallmouth:4.25lb I was glad to have 10lb test & a MH rod.
Luckily I was in some deep slow water section of the river.
5.5 pound rainbow is the biggest and baddest that i've caught so far but I hope to get some bigger fish this fall
I have caught some 8-10lb Gar down at the river that put up a heck of a fight. Still waiting to hook that monster catfish...
the other sunday i caught a 30 inch channel cat. the biggest fish iv ever caught. put up a heck of a fight , just about broke my rod . i had 6 lb. line. i was lucky it dident brake couse that cat was definitly over 6 lbs.

My biggest freshwater fish was a 68-lb, 51-inch-long blue catfish in the Mississippi River. I fought it for about 20 minutes on heavy tackle (we were going after big cats). It was extremely exciting, and I would go on a trip like that again in a heartbeat.
My biggest saltwater fish was a blue marlin that was caught on fairly light tackle. The fish weighed roughly 125 lbs, but due to the lighter sized rod & reel (we were trolling for fish in the 20-lb range), the fight lasted two whole hours. I was seasick for the first time on that trip, so it made for a rather interesting day.
I would love to repeat the marlin trip while leaving off the seasickness and the nasty sunburn I suffered from afterwards :).
strippers there is nothing like try to fight a stripper in a river.
I recently slugged it out with a 32 inch musky on a 7ft med/fast spinning rod with 20# test braid. I had built this rig for bassing but couldnt resist the urge to try and hook into a musky with it. After about 10 minutes and 3 runs I finally tuckerd the ol girl out, after 2 pics she was off to fight another day.
best fight ever was this summer i think july fishing in a private pond. theres some bass nothin unreal but huge carp. I tried to get one wouldn't bite any thing bread, dough, corn i even tried ham but nothing so i watched them got on a treble hook threw it past about 6 of them and just set the hook this thing was taking so much drag i had my pole lined with 12 lbs test. i fought him about 15 min, jumping clear out of the water like a whale finnaly got him in and holy s**t i didn't wiegh it but around 50" and had to be around 35-40lbs. i will never forget that day. INSANE
