The Tip Board
For a cheap deer scent/lure dispenser I go to Wal-mart or any other store that develops film and ask them for the empty film canisters(I've never been charged for them). I then take them home and get an ice pick or anything pointed and heat the end with a lighter or small propane torch and it will go right thru the canister. Poke several holes all around the canister and one in the bottom and one in the top. Take about a foot of trot line and tie the ends and slip it thru the top. get a wad of cotton balls and poke em in the canister and then your ready to pour in your favorite scent/lure. When you get to your stand just hang the canister from a limb. For little to nothing except some time you have yourself a full supply of dispensers that will last forever
thanks i will use this technique
I carry a ziplock bag of Q-tips. The paper shaft kind - biodegradeable in case I decide to leave them, or lose them. I bend them in half and set them on branches and twigs. I think I know a few big scrapes that I think were started by my abandoned q-tips.
I also cut up a yellow micro-fiber towel. First I cut out the middle - leaving the edge intact. This I put in a ziplock bag and spritz with scent. This is my drag - just stick your foot through the hole and walk. Had several deer follow my trail to the stand.
Then the middle of the towel that I cut out, I cut into 1" wide strips. I dose those pretty liberally with scent and keep them in another ziplock bag. Those I toss out of my stand, strategically - based on the wind. One of them I keep to tie to the hook on my lifting rope. That one I can pull up and refresh. Or I can just toss out more Q-tips.
A simple loop of cotton twine does a good job of hanging up on twigs and weeds when tossed from a stand rather than dropping clear to the ground where I think they don't put off as much smell, or the scent is wicked into the wet ground. Take about a dozen since they dry out quickly and you'll want to toss out more every couple hours to keep the scent fresh.
Oh, I hunt public land and the other day I came upon a TAMPON hanging hear a tree with climber marks on it. (NO, I didn't sniff it to be sure!)
