Welcome to Field & Stream
The Tip Board
An easy and fast way to start a fire, and this method will work every time. Take some cotton balls and cover them in Vaseline. Store them in an empty pill bottle or empty chew can you have cleaned out. They will flare up with a spark from a flint stone or matches. I always carry 4 Vaseline covered cotton balls in an empty chew can in my survival kit.

Very good idea.
I have literally trusted my life to these. They work! Don't leave home without them.
