spooky trout

Uploaded on February 07, 2012

Trout in clear water sometimes spook at the sight of a new split shot. Few things in a stream shine.
To take the shine off split shot, soak them in hydrogen peroxide for twenty minutes.
Result: a dull coating of lead oxide.
Buy peroxide at a drugstore.

Lead oxide is more readily absorbed than metallic lead. If you do this, don't forget to wash your hands and don't bite the shot closed. A black sharpie marker will dull down your lead without the toxic side effects.
