The Tip Board

Ziploc Omelet

Uploaded on August 22, 2009

A great way to have breakfast ready for a large at the same time. Using a dutch oven, bring a pot of water to a boil. Put 2-3 eggs in 1 quart ziploc bags, and put your names on them. Have everyone put in the baggies what they would like in their omelet. With a group of 6-8 people, we boil them for 13 minutes. With a larger group it amay take longer, or use 2 pans.

Heh, don't use a really cheap bag though. I know from experience the grill from a 350 degree deep frier can melt our portion bags.

I published this idea in my article "Breakfast in a Bag" in the March/April 2008 issue of Backwoodsman Magazine. They say that imitation is the highest complement.

Sourdough Dave is a little absorbed with himself and does not fully comprehend the intention or use of the "Tip Board". It is to share your experience and knowledge and help others, not to say "hey look at me!!!".

He may have published the "breakfast in a bag" idea 2 years ago, as he alledges...but it is by no means his original idea.

Serious campers/hunters/hikers have been using making breakfast like this for 10+ years if not longer. Next he will be taking credit for crockpot deer chili.

Guys recent research indicates that heating or freezing food in plastic containers releases stuff from the plastic into your food that is not good for your health. The wife and I use pyrex containers to store leftovers etc. Don't get me wrong we still use plastic stuff but not for cooking or freezing drinking water. That is why Mcdonalds and many other fast food places quit using styrofoam for their burgers.
