Fall Turkey Season in West Virginia

Uploaded on October 13, 2013

West Virginia's fall turkey season came in yesterday (Sat- Oct 12 ). It was rainy and the turkeys were standing around as usual. Walked up on a small flock of young birds at a range of about 20 yards. Being the season is early the young hens probably only weighed about 7 or 8 pounds and there were no young gobblers in the flock. I will wait till later on in the season when the turkeys put on a little more weight. When you kill one of these small turkeys you don't have a very big breast to pound and fry in butter. Later on the young gobblers will weigh about 13 or 14 pounds and then you have a nice tender bird for the table.

My grandson is 13 and has killed 3 deer with his bow but today(Oct 19) he killed his first turkey with a bow. He would rather hunt than eat when he is hungry.

My grandson just called me and told me that he killed 4 squirrels today and also a doe on youth day today. A turkey, squirrels, and a deer, a pretty good day for a 13 year old.
